    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The first week of my insight, I was placed at a client site that had little work to delegate to me, so enjoying my insight was quite a struggle. As time progressed and I was placed at a different client site, I was given more interesting work and more responsibility to go with it, and I enjoyed my time far more.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • During my second client site placement, I felt more valued and that my work was helping to actually complete the audit, rather than just proofreading and referencing like at my first placement.

    3/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • During my first placement, very little. The only two constant members of staff at the client site were two S2s and while they tried their best to guide me, they had very little work to delegate to me or show me. However, at my second placement, I felt more supported and thus more valued as a result.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • More confidence with dealing with clients More competence with EMS and client specific systems Development of interpersonal and team working skills A wider experience of audit procedures and work (especially testing) A greater idea of what I want to do with my career following University

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Initially, there was little structure due to the lack of consistent management at my first placement. Day to day, there was little consistency as I never knew where work may come from next. However, at my second placement, there was a clear day to day structure and clear management/delegation. It was far better.

    2/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was less stressful and more relaxed than I initially thought it would be. While colleagues concentrated on their work, they also were friendly and easy going and happy to help if I had a question. The lull in work did make times dull from time to time, but generally, the atmosphere was positive.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During my induction period, the firm invested a lot of time in preparing us for the insight as well as coaching us in the best ways to interview success. On the job, more senior colleagues aided in teaching me how to use new systems and work through new procedures. In general, this helped aid my personal skill development on a day to day basis.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Being given graduate level responsibility at my second placement really helped to see what kind of work I could be doing if I had a full time role at Deloitte. I was able to see how the audit progressed and how everything pieced together.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Working with various colleagues at different stages of their careers helped see what culture there was at different levels and how the firm fit together and proceeded as a whole. I also learnt a lot more about the social activities employees have an opportunity to partake in as part of the firm.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • This really helped me decide what I want to do with my future and gave me an experience of testing out a job before I committed. I found it invaluable.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Because I have a bus pass, I was told that I do not qualify for travel expenses reimbursement.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Quite a few opportunities were given from day to day working with different people, to socials and opportunity to have a partner interview.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • These were really good for touching base with other SVS interns and meeting more senior employees and hearing about their progression through the firm. They were also really fun too!

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. I received emails and IMs relating to activities outside of work.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes. It is a great experience and a good way to test drive a job before taking it on full time. It also develops skills that will be invaluable for later life.
