    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • There was a lot of variety of work and I found it quite challenging at times. This kept me on my toes and I was learning a lot every day. It made me ultimately want to pursue a career in this role.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone who I worked with was extremely friendly and helpful which made me feel part of the team right from day one. One of the things that impressed me most about Deloitte was that there was no intimidating hierarchy, even the senior members of staff were always happy to answer any queries I may have had and take time out of their busy schedule to assist me.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Prior to the scheme all interns were allocated both a buddy (fairly new to the company too) and a champion (a more senior member of staff) who were always there to provide support throughout the duration of your placement. Not only that but as mentioned above all other members of staff were always happy to help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days during my placement were much busier than others and on some occasions I found myself having to ask someone more senior than me if I could help them out with anything on a frequent basis. However this is largely due to the nature of the audit role itself in which the company relies heavily on information provided to them by the client.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the task of collecting data - though a bit dull, I understand that this is very important for the future analysing work; hence I would say that I still have quite a responsibility

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The technical accountancy skills I learnt during my placement are unlikely to assist much in the remainder of my degree, however will be invaluable should I decide to continue down this career path. The interpersonal and time management skills I developed will be useful for any future studies/employment.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general work environment both in the main Deloitte office and out on client sights was extremely good and one of the things that I would emphasize when debating whether or not to join them.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a clear structure to the placement with my client locations being formalized well in advance of my start date, They were also flexible and happy to change one of my weeks locations due to the difficulty I would have had in travelling there.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Obviously as I was only there for a short period of time the training was limited. However the company funded both a regional induction day (in which meals and overnight hotel stay was paid for) and a service line training day in the Deloitte office itself.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The career progression within the firm is very appealing as is the development and training offered with their graduate programme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The company organised a couple of social events during my placement which enabled me to network with the other interns and people already in a permanent role at Deloitte.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The office was located at the heart of Cambridge therefore living/social costs were not cheap but certainly nowhere near as high as in London. Social events are frequently subsidized by the company itself.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cambridge is an area I already knew fairly well with plenty going on in the evenings. There were plenty of pubs near the office, one of which we visited on my last day.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As mentioned above there were a couple of social events organised for the summer vacation scheme workers to get to network. Was also informed of social football which takes place once a week.

    4/5
