    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I massively enjoyed my insight with Savills London. I certainly feel you can judge a job on whether you are excited to get to the office or not. There wasn't a working day this month where I wasn't eager to get into the office and get stuck in with work previously set. I think that gives testament to how the HR department in Savills have organised the month long insight.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt valued within the team as a result of being given work to complete for someone else. I contributed to the team, this could be as a result of my background, in return I was praised. The department was not shy to give encouragement to me and the other interns and I think this is a key way for the company to make you feel valued. At the end of the day whether we are doing mundane jobs or not we are still adding to the overall team target.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • This is a part of Savills that I could not rate more highly. The office space is designed to incorporate everyone together and this results in interns and graduates being able to ask questions to a wide range of employees. Some days I would find myself next to a graduate, another day next to a director. This variation meant I received a lot of support over my month.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I don't think over a month the information I brought on board will directly correlate with my academic grades. The reason being is because I feel a month is very short to get into the deep technical parts of a project that would help back in University. However I do feel the experiences I have been exposed to will be used greatly for interviews and assessment days that I will attend in the future. I had to construct and deliver a presentation and the skills I gained doing this task will certainly help me later in my career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured. The recruitment team and the various departments the interns worked for have developed over the years a very well structured and organised month. During the month we had optional 'meet and greet' lunches, departmental overviews and walking tours. All of these events meant we could discover what it is like to work for Savills. The walking tours allowed all the interns to understand the area that we work in as many of the interns were not brought up in London. The Departmental Overviews which were presented frequently gave an idea to the interns what is expected from each department, once graduated and chartered.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was positive and hard working. This positive environment meant that it was easy to knuckle down and complete the task you were assigned. Every employee of my department knew that they were in the office to work, and work to a high standard. That really is a good environment to be involved in, as it pushes you on.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Over the course of the month I attended a day of lectures on Technical Due Diligence. I also was able to attend a graduate's Asbestos Awareness morning. Therefore I feel I gained a lot in terms of personal development in the small time that I had with the company.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • As we were integrated within our respective departments early on, I think I was able to understand what it is like to work full time for Savills. My only criticism is that as a result of only working for the company for one month, we were only assigned to one department. This meant we were unable to understand what it is like to work in another department.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I now feel confident I understand the company's culture. This is due to the number of interactions I have had with Directors and Associate Directors who are engrained with the Savill's culture.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It is very hard for any company to help an undergraduate decide on their future pathway in a month. I do not feel Savills was able to help in terms of me trying to decide which pathway I want to follow however they did do as much as they could! Each departmental overview helped different people in different ways, it helped the interns refine what they wanted to get out of Savills and also what Savills could get out of them.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were paid an adequate amount for the month.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes. Savills as a company seems to thrive on networking within the company. There were many opportunities throughout the month to meet other employees such as: Softball on Regents Park.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Very well organised and a good way not only to get to know the graduates but also the other Summer Insight Students who, you may work with later in your career. The team within my department were all social and that meant outside of work hours we were able to enjoy one another's company.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • No. I felt Savills should have spoken more about various sports teams and clubs that one could join within Savills. Many people within work want to know that there is another life outside of the office, so having a presentation on this could be a good selling point for the company.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes definitely, I have thoroughly enjoyed my month.
