About You
The Discovery Day was very enjoyable from beginning to end. The staff was friendly and helpful to answer any questions that I might have. Also, the variety of events kept up the interest.
Even if it was only a day, my impression was that the Discovery Day was well-planned and that effort was put into it.
No guidance was needed as it was a day only.
Attended multiple informative presentations throughout the day from people in various roles with Q&A sessions at the end. Furthermore, there was an interview skills session towards the end to get to know BP's interview style.
The Company
The insight was well-planned with different events lasting each around 45 mins - 1 hour. It consisted mostly of presentations of different roles within the company, but I also got to see different parts of the facility.
The group consisted of 25 people and the atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed. There was an icebreaker at the beginning to get acquainted with the others.
The only personal development available during the Discovery Day was a short mock interview session with a BP recruiter that provided feedback.
The Discovery Day was a success because it managed to give a good, well-rounded insight into the different roles at BP. There were a mixture of recent graduates and senior staff who presented their roles and answered thoroughly any questions that the group had.
I gained some knowledge of BP's culture mostly from the Q&A sessions. They were informative as they showed various aspects of employees and their interactions with their peers.
I was already set on oil and gas, but the Discovery Day definitely gave me a better overview of the different roles on offer in the company.
Everything Else
The process of asking for information on reimbursements was long and tedious. Travel and accommodation costs up to a reasonable amount will be reimbursed after the Discovery Day on completion of an expenses form.
Unfortunately, most interactions with employees were during the presentations, but there were a few short networking chances during the lunch break.
The time for networking was short so it was mostly an opportunity to ask more questions.
There seem to be social events organized by BP outside of the office. There were several announcements of sports and other social events spread throughout the facility.
Definitely, the insight into BP was priceless as it allowed me to gain a better understanding of what kind of work to expect in an energy company.
