    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at Imperial College London, as I was able to learn so many transferable skills which i am currently finding useful in my current job. The placement was based at the National Heart and Lung Institute, and the exposure to this world renowned setting has been so valuable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • All the professors and lecturers who were with us during the five days we were there, did a fantastic job ensuring that we made the most of our time there. This involved doing many workshops and attending seminars, as well as a session on careers choices. This is what I found the most useful

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I believe that we received plenty of support right from the first day we were there. The staff always made sure that we were included in all discussions, and were very helpful whenever we had any doubts. They went the extra mile, by always ensuring that we followed everything they said and taught us by providing notes and one to one sessions.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Throughout our stay there, we were able to learn so many valuable skills and these have definitely been useful for me in my degree and current job. These mainly include my ability to work in a team, lead a team and appreciating the views and opinions of others. This has definitely given my more confidence in my approach to work.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The placement programme was very well structured and this has been running for a number of years. This is one of the reasons for why it is so successful. We were given a detailed timetable on our first day, and in terms of resources, all the sessions were aided by notes.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was one of the aspects that definitely stood out. The staff made it really friendly and quite chilled, by doing so it made sure everyone felt at home. I was able to make plenty of new friends and contacts, which I am still in conversation even today. This has helped me in many ways in my current job.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The staff running the placement put maximum effort in my opinion, to make sure we made the most of our time there. They made sure that whatever we learnt was always consolidated during the one on one session. Even now they are still in contact and have been a great influence on me.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • By going on this programme, it made me understand the beauty of the human body as I have always fascinated by how it works. It made me realise that this is wanted in my job, and this placement basically gave me exposure to this field of science. It definitely made me confident about what career paths were available.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I paid for all the food and travel costs that I experience for the week. Looking back at it now, I am not worried about the expenses I overcame as the experience I gather from the programme, definitely outweighs any costs. The skills I have learnt have been so invaluable, I am happy I made the decision to attend the programme.


  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was plenty of opportunity for us to meet professionals in this field. On of our days was dedicated to meeting career advisors who came down to meet us from various companies to give us advice and the various careers paths that would be available to us. In fact I am currently working at one of the companies I was told about during the placement.
