    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight. It was a great opportunity to experience Savills and talks from members of different departments really ensured that I gained an experience of the company as a whole. Although I have had experience at working at other companies that has been good, the opportunities to network and structure of the overall week in Savills meant that this was much more valuable and enjoyable. I would encourage anyone to apply that was thinking of a property-related career.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued and was made to feel very welcome by everyone that I came into contact with. All the work that I did had a purpose and I knew exactly how it would be used. It was also really nice to receive comments back from people in the department about how I could improve the work that I gave them if I had to undertake a similar task in the future.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I received a lot of support and my mentor was incredible friendly and easy to talk to. It was really useful to be paired with a mentor to stay with during the week as it meant I gained a very clear insight of the work that they did and I could also ask them any questions I had about the company or their job in general.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have improved my word processing skills through constructing tables and gathering information together from various sources. I have also improved my skills in formal writing as I had to write a couple of letters to clients. This will help immensely in my degree studies as being able to write formally is a very important skill and is always needed. I also improved my networking skills through different events which is a very valuable skill and is crucial in getting a job.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight week was very well structured. There were regular talks that were timetabled on a sheet that was given to us at the beginning of the week and quite a few networking events scheduled for lunchtimes and after work. It was always very clear where to be and at what time and the different departmental talks and other events were scheduled at times that meant they did not break up the day or disturb the work we had to do.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The general atmosphere was very friendly within the company and I could tell that working for Savills would be very rewarding and enjoyable. Everyone that I spoke to was very friendly and were very complementary about the company and keen to answer any questions I had. After this insight week, I know that this is a company that I would really enjoy working for and I hope that after my degree, I might get this opportunity.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Savills invested a lot in my personal training and improving my skills. They put on a lot of networking events that improved my skills in talking to senior members of the industry. Furthermore, my mentor and other members of the department I worked in showed me how to do a number of different tasks that I had not done before.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It helped considerably as it demonstrated the overall friendly and hard-working atmosphere of the company and how rewarding it would be to work for them. Getting an insight into the work that my mentor has to do as well as completing some of the work myself, also illustrated to me what sort of work is involved as a Savills graduate surveyor.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It helped a lot as I was able to meet some of the people that worked in the company and gain an insight into the values of the company as well as some of the social events that are organised for the graduates.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was very valuable as the different talks from different departments demonstrated how wide-ranging the company was and how many different areas there were to go into. This meant that I didn't just gain an insight into the department that I were working in, but also other departments that I may decide to work in.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed for my expenses which I really appreciated as it meant I didn't have to worry about the cost of travelling to the office and buying lunch while I was at the insight week.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities to network with the other students, graduates, as well as more senior members of the company such as directors. Events such as lunches and drinks were put on which meant that I could speak to many different people in a slightly less formal and more easy setting.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking events were brilliant as they were with different groups of people including ones with other insight students, with graduates, and with people who were more senior in the company.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I found out about lots of different schemes they can get involved with. There seem to be many socials that the employees enjoy attending as well as schemes such as taking a masters degree at a nearby university if they have not done a RICS-accredited degree.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would definitely recommend this to a friend. It was very enjoyable and I gained a brilliant insight into the company. It was very worthwhile doing and I have met many people that I will keep in contact with in the future.
