    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Spring into Deloitte was a fun, interactive event that allowed me to better understand the service lines within Deloitte, as well as meet some like-minded people. After an early start and a first day packed full of case studies, followed by a long evening meal with Deloitte people, everyone was having trouble with their concentration levels. However, the second day was far more relaxed, with fewer case studies and an opportunity to practise interview skills.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Even as an applicant to this event, I felt that I was valued; they make an effort to make sure that you are well-informed about the status of your application, instead of keeping you waiting. During the event, there were plenty of opportunities to meet a range of people currently working there - both graduates and partners - and to ask questions. It is obvious that Deloitte try hard to attract good prospective employees.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Speaking with current employees was the helpful for me, as it allowed me to gauge what all the roles involved, as well as what qualities may be important for them. Unfortunately, there was little in the way of individual feedback for case studies, as they were all carried out as group work, and those without any financial background at all may struggle with some concepts.

    4/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • During the first day an external speaker advised us on skills, particularly body language, when giving presentations. The information about the various service lines has definitely helped me to decide where my preferences now lie. If you have attended any interview workshops before, you'll find that there is little to gain in terms of general interview skills, but it was very helpful for finding out what to expect when interviewing for the Summer Vacation Scheme at Deloitte.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • There were several short breaks between case studies and other events, as well as a longer lunch break. However, the first day finished an hour later than scheduled and the second finished a couple of hours earlier than scheduled; the activities could have been balanced out more, especially considering there was also an evening meal arranged for the first day.

    3/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone, both employees and other candidates, was friendly and helpful, though there were a few individuals who were more competitive and expecting to be assessed during the event.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The external speaker that Deloitte invited to advise us on presentation skills frequently works with Deloitte, and has some other impressive clients. It would have been difficult to incorporate due to the size of the group, but individual assignments or activities would have been beneficial.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Deloitte initially helped to explain what they do through a case study, where we were the clients and they explained what each of their service lines could do for our company. Following case studies involved playing roles within each service line to experience it for ourselves. These, combined with the opportunity to ask plenty of questions, helped to give a good idea of how it would be to work at Deloitte.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It seems that Deloitte is a company that is invests a lot of time and money in its employees, in order to get the best out of them. I found that Deloitte also places importance on the social life of employees, as there are numerous societies too.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The event was useful for getting a better idea of what each service line does, but it is only the beginning; I will still have to read up more on a couple of them to find out more about what they would entail.

    4/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Our travel expenses were reimbursed (up to £50). This covered my entire travel expenses. All food, accommodation at a good hotel in the area, as well as taxi expenses to and from the hotel were paid for.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The dinner on the first night was a particularly good opportunity to speak to a couple of employees. After each session, there was also an opportunity to ask employees from each service line questions.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Due to the tight schedule, it meant that there was not always enough time for everyone to network with employees, especially for popular service lines such as Consulting, though the dinner was better.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I found about about the activities by talking with a couple of employees and asking them questions. Activities involve volunteering and taking part in societies, as well as the possibility of outings after projects.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • The insight is definitely worthwhile if you are curious to find out more about Deloitte, particularly if you want to compare it with any of the other Big Four and find differences in their culture that make some more suited to you.
