    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The insight was ultimately a 2 day intensive course whereby we learnt as much as was possible about different business channels within Deloitte. Despite this there was plenty of time to enjoy the experience. The ice-breaker at the start of the two days was well thought out and fun whilst the external speaker got everyone communicating with each other. Constant opportunities to work within changing teams meant that I did several presentations over the two days and also participated in several business games. The networking dinner on the evening of the first day was a relaxed and fun way to talk to business professionals and fellow students whilst the hotel stay was certainly fun for anyone used to far cheaper uni accommodation and food!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt wanted from the moment I stepped in the office. With my own namebadge ready and waiting for me, travel expenses paid for, refreshments, lunch, networking dinner and breakfast all included as part of a hotel stay I felt Deloitte were trying to impress me when I very much thought I should be the one trying to impress them! Following the event we were all sent an email which fast-tracks us to the summer internship scheme next year giving us a choice of business channels and flexibility regarding choice of office.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • A hugs amount. With 5 case studies followed by team presentations a feature of just this two day event we were certainly thrown in at the deep end, however people from the relevant department were always close by to offer us guidance not only on the work we were doing, but also offering their thoughts on their careers and our situation. Furthermore Deepti and Steve who ran our course were ever-present and approachable, whilst a senior partner gave us invaluable advice in two speeches as well as at a networking dinner, offering (like everyone else) his contact details for further advice post-event.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Hugely. The two day scheme does test your ability to present information you often know very little about in a rigorous set of challenges, however you receive constant feedback throughout. The opportunity to have an interview skills session really exposes you as a person and gave me much to think about ahead of my interview with Deloitte this May.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Brilliantly!!! There was very little downtime in the two day event as we were constantly active. We started off with a general view of Deloitte's departments with a case study which scratched the surface of each department, before having more in depth presentations and case studies with people from specific departments later on. The only downside was one department was left out - corporate finance - and that was the one I was most interested in!

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The people who visited us who were at various stages of training with Deloitte all installed a hugh energy atmosphere and emphasised what a great place Deloitte was to work, with some very appealing job perks. The other people on the course with me were all extremely driven, but we all emersed ourselves in the tasks well, with everybody playing a part in presenting a section of our case study findings on each of the 5 presenting occassions. We also gave each other feedbac on the interview workshop and got to know each other at the networking dinner and breakfast in a more social environment.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In dedicating two days of time and money in me Deloitte have clearly tried to get me to apply for the summer vacation scheme next year - which I will. They ensured I am best equipped to pass their final interview stage as well as gave me an extensive opportunity to contact people at Deloitte for further discussions and advuce.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight programme was only two days so it is difficult to learn everything about the company in that time, especially when looking at so many rather than just one department. Despite that having representatives from each department speak about their everyday work as well as spending two days in the office did give me a certain feel about life as an employee. Overall the internship and obviously graduate role is better equipped for a strong answer to this question purely because they are longer programmes

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Very much so. Talking to employees meant you learn a huge amount of honest opinions about the company beyond the stats we were given through powerpoints throughout the two days

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Undoubtedly the best thing about the programme. In two days I went from not really knowing what to do to realistically being able to plan the next 5 years of my life, having pinpointed what department appeals to me most and knowing exactly what programmes lead me there and what to expect in terms of later training on the graduate scheme

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed travel expenses up to £50 as well as given two lunches, a breakfast, networking dinner and hotel room for the night. Taxis between the hotel and office were pre-paid for by Deloitte

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • The networking dinner stands out as the greatest opportunity but we were also invited to staff drinks in the office after the two days. Any people that visited us to run areas of the programme about their department were also extremely approachable.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • There was the netowrking dinner on the vening of the first day but the lunches and breakfasts also provided the opportunity to network with the extremely sociable staff. In addition we were invited to a staff drinks session after the final day to network further having been privided some emails and linkedin contacts throughout the two days.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There were always opportunities to answer graduates questions as well as the networking dinner which demonstrated life at Deloitte beyond just the everyday work

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. For anyone unsure of what they want to do in the future this is an intensive course that really clears so much up for you about what you want to do in the future. If you are like me you will leave this course with great motivation for the future and feel a lot more confident about routes to a graduate job.
