    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed it, even more than I was expecting to. We started off with an icebreaker of 'people bingo' which was fun and a good way to get to introduce yourself to a lot of people in a short space of time. All the sessions were interesting, fun and got you actively involved in tasks. The hotel we were put up in was fantastic, and we had a meal there in the evening where we were on small tables with a few other students and members of staff (from student recruitement, to people who were on the Grad scheme to managers) rotated between the tables during courses so you could ask them questions in a really relaxed environment. As everyone has the chance to have an interview after the scheme, there was a never a feeling of being assessed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • A lot of effort had been put in to the two day scheme, several staff came to do presentations and sessions with us, some giving up a lot of time as they came from different offices. Students from Spring into Deloitte are fast tracked for the interview for the summer placement, with the interviews taking place before other students are able to start their application.

    4/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We were able to ask questions after every session and every session was extremely informative. Many of the staff who did sessions left business cards or were happy to give out their email so we could contact them after the insight days with any further questions.

    5/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was hugely useful in terms of getting an idea in what the different service lines do, there was a session from each one by staff from that sector, which always included a team business game. This will be helpful in deciding what service line to apply to for the summer vacation scheme and to get a feeling for the type of career you want to go into.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It was extremely well structured - all the sessions were well planned and we had regular breaks during the day and for lunch. When the first day finished, we got taxis to the hotel, found our rooms and had about half an hour before dinner. Each session relating to the service lines started with a talk about what it was and then an activity relating to it. We also had a case study activity based around a fictional company, where we had to work out which of Deloitte's service lines would be best suited to solving its problems. There was a really interesting talk on personal impact i.e. how to come across well in business and how to present yourself, such as body language, hand shakes, how you stand etc. On the second day there was a session to help us prepare for the interview. We were in groups of about 6 with a member of Deloitte staff with each group. Each person had a relaxed mock interview for about 10 minutes while the rest of the group listened and then got given feedback.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Very positive - we were on tables of about 8 people who we worked with for the majority of the time although we mixed them up a bit on the second day. All the staff we met were very friendly and helpful and happy to answer any questions! The dinner on the first evening was really enjoyable, it was a much more relaxed environment compared to during the day and you felt very comfortable in being honest and asking all of your questions.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It was only a two day insight programme so this isn't particularly relevant but we had interview practise to help with the next stage and we got a great insight into the different service lines.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Most people had no idea what the different service lines were before hand and we all came away with a much clearer idea. All the staff talked about their experiences with the firm and so we were able to see a wide range of perspectives and all of the different options.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Deloitte has a very strong focus on people and this came across very well. A lot of the staff talked about the social events which help get to know your team well and how you make close friends with people in your year and get through the exams together!

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Extremely useful - it gave me a much clearer idea of what all the different service lines entail and which one I want to focus on and apply to for the summer vacation scheme.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • We were reimbursed for travel expenses. All accommodation and food for both days was provided.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Throughout the two days we met with several members of staff from all different parts of the business and different offices who could talk about their different experiences and clients and projects they had worked with.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Throughout the two days we were able to talk to all the other students and lots of staff. There was a particularly good chance to network and socialise at the dinner.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We were told about different opportunities including regular social events and also the chance to get involved with volunteering.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely - it was so useful in getting a better idea about the parts of Deloitte, what they do and their culture as a firm. It is a great chance to get fast-tracked to interview for the summer vacation scheme which can ultimately lead to being offered a job.
