The Role
My internship was superb. My line manager was great and gave me an invaluable and honest insight into the company and used his experience to tell me about having a career in finance in industry.
I was given a lot of responsibility and the effort and hard work that I put in was reflected in the praise and feedback I received not only with the people I was working closely with, but the stakeholders who were involved in my project.
I arranged weekly meetings with my line manager and we had weekly meetings with the group who were working on my project. These people helped me learn valuable skills in using more complex analysis on our data.
I was kept busy and I never bored. My project involved waiting for data from the relevant stakeholders, however, there was always work that needed to be done. I also used the time to anticipate potential problems in the future and find ways to solve them to improve efficiency.
I was given the optimum amount of responsibility. I had neither the skills or expertise to 'run the show' but I felt that my input added value to the business and to the project. This was reflected in the manager's feedback.
This is probably the most important aspect that I gained from my internship. The experience and skills that I obtained during the internship will be used over and over again. I now know my strengths and weaknesses and I feel confident that it has made me a better candidate for the future.
The Company
The team were great fun and everybody was approachable. We had good moral and knew what needed to be done and when because of the weekly team meetings which I was responsible for taking the minutes for.
The recruitment team were exceptionally organised and were rapid in answering any questions. I always felt I had a point of contact with somebody who could make changes. This was invaluable in my situation as personal circumstances meant that I needed more flexibility at the end of my internship which the team helped me with throughout.
My line manager assured me from the start that I should try and become a more rounded employee and not just stick in the office for the internship. The company invested a lot of time and money in helping us get involved with charity work and I went on a number of field trips to different parts of the business including a power station which was great!

The internship is structured effectively meaning that interns have a great chance of getting a job on the graduate programme after they have finished their studies.
The Culture
The halls of residence where we stayed were great (and free!) so we had a great atmosphere and social scene amongst the other interns. This included sports teams and other social events in London.
The cost of living and socialising was quite expensive in and around London, however, our accomodation was paid for by the company which was amazing!
We had great fun in Windsor, Egham and London and there was good variety too - pubs, nighclubs, gigs, etc.
We organised a football team and I played tennis too. There was also chances to do things with our charity group too.
