    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very interesting work with high level of autonomy within cash sales. If you are interested in equities then there are few better places to gain experience, the calibre of employees on the trading floor and within research is outstanding.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Varied from desk to desk - but would not go as far to say valued, in many ways that was understandable given the intensity of the job at times. It is also difficult for UBS staff to give any real responsibility to interns within sales and trading, as such 'value add' becomes an ever elusive objective!

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Found a couple of people I could go to for support, but don't expect that to be consistent around the trading floor! Support from HR was pretty good and the weekly activities and teach ins were excellent and consistent throughout the internship. There is a whole week of training at the start as well.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At times I had a lot of free time to go and sit with whoever I wanted, at others I was getting in before 6 am and leaving after 9 pm - it fluctuated a lot and depended on how much work I asked for and whether we had a stock pitch coming up.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Very difficult to give much responsibility in cash sales - I was given the odd task that added value but doing this on a consistent basis was tough. Occasionally work I did was used for clients but without qualifications it is difficult to hand much responsibility over to interns

    1/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The on the job learning is fantastic and this is what kept me motivated. I got a lot of fundamental knowledge out of the 9 weeks and that was easily the best takeaway from the experience. It is surprising how much actually goes in..

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Quite Individualistic due to the nature of the work. But not a bad place to work if you can handle that sort of environment, The trading is much better lit than others I have been to. Reasonably relaxed too (because it was the summer..)

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Good structure and events throughout - at least a couple events or teach ins each week. The training week at the beginning may repeat a lot of stuff if you have done anything like this before but heck, your getting paid a ridiculous hourly rate during that first week!

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 1 weeks whole training along with seminars and trading game throughout each week. Employees were very good most of the time at answering questions and seemed to take an interest in our development. Stock pitches were good practice also.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    1/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Hiring rate was pretty low this year sadly!

    1/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had a few fun social events with excellent canapes

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Anyone that doesn't know the cost of living in London shouldn't be applying to this role

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Shoreditch is excellent

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not much that I was aware of

    2/5
