    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My Summer Vacation Scheme placement was overall very enjoyable. I worked very hard and worked some long hours on occasion, that was not so enjoyable when I look back, but I felt I made a valid contribution,

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • One of the best characteristics of the placement was the opportunity to work with like minded, bright intelligent people. I realised that coming from a non-financial background was not a barrier as I met many people in a similar position to myself, who have carved out successful careers at the firm.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Help and support was available when I needed it but the majority of the time I was working by myself with autonomy, and responsible to produce a high standard of work. So overall although I was given support I was largely working without someone constantly over my shoulder. This was a good balance.

    3/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was probably a bit too busy on occasion as I sometimes had to work longer hours beyond 6pm, to meet a deadline. This wasn't on a daily basis- only about two times a week, and never on a Friday. I think this depends on the project worked on as I know others had different experiences.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • During the SVS I was given a lot of responsibility and this was largely fine, but I made an error on one day which needed some correcting and this took time, and could have been picked up sooner. However I often asked for help if I felt I needed it.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Can't comment here as I am studying foreign language, sorry.

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was rarely in the office. Most of the time I was doing work elsewhere and the atmosphere with people I worked with was fun and friendly, I would say. At times people were a bit quiet or pressured with work that needed to be finished that day, Overall the people were great.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement met my expectations and it was good to put to life the work which I read about on the website. This provided some useful insight into the firm but it was only when I did the work I now can properly understand the tasks much better.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have the impression Deloitte are very supportive and would invest in me if I returned later on. This is via going to college and studying for week after week, which is an expensive cost! So yes I feel this area, the firm are strong.

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would like to work for the firm in the future but I am considering competitor firms also, if I believe this is where my future should lie. At present I am still unsure where I want to work but the SVS has been useful. I have more information now and idea about the industry.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes the social side of things were good. Looking back this was mostly from the events set up with the wider SVS starters more so than my department. These evenings were good and I am pleased I went along despite being nervous beforehand.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Luckily the socials were paid for as going out was expensive, however this was expected. I made my own lunch and tried to cut costs where I could as I have my university debt at present, but the salary payments have helped.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are lots of places to go out. I went out each week of my SVS and usually this was at a bar called The Last I think, near the office, which was popular with Deloitte employees. It was a good venue to meet centrally. Occasionally we went out afterwards on to other venues.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I think so
