    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Working with Arup was four weeks was interesting and inspiring. I developed real life skills about engineering and working in a company, both of which are not effectively taught at University.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The tasks I was undertaking were necessary contributions which benefitted in the project's overall progression. Although only a small part, I felt that my work was valuable to the company.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I had constant support from a mentor who sat next to me. He was always able to answer my questions and willing to discuss interesting aspects of the project. The Associate in the team also regularly asked about my progress and how I was getting on.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I experienced site development design and learnt about the concept and detailed design of a steel framed cinema. Both aspects are very relevant to the final year of my degree and I will be able to directly apply what I have learnt.

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • From day one, I had several tasks to complete for one project. This provided a good structure and ensured continuous workload.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. I was able to talk to colleagues about their projects and work they were doing to contribute to these. I also enjoyed getting to know colleagues by chatting informally about social and out of work interests.
