    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The work placement was extremely informative and the office environment was relaxed. Because of not living in Manchester, a long daily commute was required and it was taking its toll by the end of the intern-ship.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work that was given was of use to the company and my colleagues so it definitely felt as though they could trust me to do meaningful work for them.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The project managers, and the whole team, were extremely helpful and willing to give assistance in any matter,

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Save for the final day of the placement, in which I was handing over the work to another placement student, there was never a moment left twiddling my thumbs yet it never felt as though I was snowed under.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of work was appropriate to what could be expected of a placement student but there were some pieces that required more responsibility than others.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working in an office environment as part of a team allows me to work better in the group projects at university because having seen what it is like in a professional environment I can now see how a team should cooperate and can encourage that within the group.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was generally a calm and relaxed environment in which the office could laugh and joke with one another without it impeding on the work.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Although there was always work available and my supervisor willingly gave help, a bit more of a structure to the initial couple of weeks would help to integrate the new student into the team.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The was no official training per se, it was much more of an 'on the fly' response with the training and help with using the software and the administrative procedures. Personally I feel that this works better because one can put the knowledge to immediate use and, for me at least, it helped to memorise it.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am very seriously considering a job with ARUP.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were social events with my colleagues in which the placement students were invited, however because of a several hour commute from the office to home I did not go to many.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I cannot comment on the cost of living/socialising in that area.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I cannot comment on the Nightlife.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I was not aware of anything but I didn't go looking for anything so can't comment on that.

    3/5
