    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • I worked in VAT in Indirect Tax, the work was very varied from answering VAT queries to going to client meetings. There was very little admin work given to me. The team were very welcoming and Deloitte organized a few social events for us.

    • The team made me feel like a part of them as soon as I got there and I was trusted with work that was going to be sent to clients

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?

    • Deloitte have a buddy scheme, where you get buddied up with an associate. This worked very well for me as my buddy was helpful and provided support whenever I needed it.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • As I was the only intern on my department, I got all of the work sent to me so I never really had nothing to do

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • I was given a considerable amount of work that was going to be used for clients and went along with other colleagues to meetings where I was encouraged to participate. There is a review chain in place, but that is to ensure that you don't do anything wrong.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • I'll go into my third year of uni knowing a lot more about the tax system and VAT in particular

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • The atmosphere was professional but in a very light-hearted manner

    • Overall, the internship was organized well, but the induction could have taken place on a day other than Sunday

    • I got given a service line induction on my first morning in the office. I was always briefed on what I had to do in advance and anything technical was explained

    • Like everyone else on the Summer Vacation Scheme, I have a final interview with a partner which will decide whether or not I get a job offer

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • We often met up for lunch whilst on our internship, and had a few social events together which was organized by Deloitte

    • I commuted from home so there was no cost

    • We didn't have any nights out

    • There was limited scope for me to get involved in as I was only there for 3 weeks
