    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the internship. I was challenged with the work they set me, but there was always support available if I needed a hand with something. I enjoyed the responsibility I was given when working on the projects. During my 6 weeks I worked on about 6 projects, all very different in character, so it gave me a great insight into what a graduate job could entail for me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All my colleagues were friendly and made sure they introduced themselves to me. Even other people in the office who I wouldn't work with introduced themselves also. The office had a great atmosphere and I knew that if I had any questions or problems I could happily turn to anyone in my office.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was assigned 1 supervisor during my internship. They organised work for me to do with the managers and gave me good support and guidance if I ever got stuck and my current manager was unavailable. They introduced me to everyone in the office and showed me examples of the work they were doing to give me a taste of the other projects available at Deloitte. They also invited me to social events at Deloitte which really enriched my experience as I felt like a fully integrated employee.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most of the time I was very busy, because when I completed the work I would usually be able to ask my manager straight away for more work. However there were also times when there was a little waiting around. This is in the nature of the job and I used this time to complete training exercises and get organised for the next job.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a great deal of responsibility, as much as a graduate. This was great as it was a chance to be stretched and then prove myself. There was one particular project where I was given enough freedom and responsibility to write a presentation that was to be delivered to a partner. I was able to suggest ideas to my manager and also the partner when we were giving the presentation.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have most definitely gained skills for life during my time at Deloitte. It has given me invaluable experience which will aid me in getting a future a job. It will also help me with my degree studies as I can now see the relevance of my degree to the working world

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere was brilliant. Everyone was friendly and I knew I could always turn to someone if I needed help or advice on anything.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship set up was well organised. We were all given relevant and useful training before doing any work. My supervisor organised which projects I was working on, and they chose projects which gave me a good taste of everything. There were a couple of other interns and the company/our supervisors also organised a couple of socials for us.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company provided necessary IT training as well as an induction event held in a hotel which focused on the Deloitte code. The induction event was brilliant as it also introduced to other interns across the country.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment prospects are based on an interview and more crucially, my performance during the internship. The reason they hired me as an intern is because it is a better way of recruiting graduates the following year. Prospects for employment here are very good - if you are good enough they will find somewhere for you to work. This is one of the perks for working for a huge global company.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a great social scene. I played in the 5 a side football team alongside/against other colleagues which was a great way to meet other employees, as well as have some fun after work. Furthermore we had a couple of socials intended for the interns. These were typically food followed by a few drinks and were great fun! They were also paid for by the company.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Manchester is quite affordable.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I didn't go out with any colleagues during my internship, but I know Manchester has a vibrant nightlife. Manchester has something for everyone.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • During my internship there were many social events that I was invited to. I also played some football. From what I gather Deloitte has a cricket team also. There are also many opportunities to do volunteering work or similar activities with Deloitte.
