    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Fantastic experience! Really worthwhile to do if you want a good insight as to what is like to work as a junior in the Firm.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • From day one on the job, I was provided with training to go through basic/essential concepts. And more importantly, whatever work I was given, there's always a thorough explanation as to what is needed and why is it needed. Also, all the works I was given are "extendable" (i.e. there's always something you can do to follow up on that), so there's HUGE potential to develop relationship with the manager and make yourself valuable. What's more is that, even though I was assigned to a team, my details/availability is displayed to everyone in the department, so there's constant opportunity to get hands on a range of other tasks/jobs from other team. So, overall, it really was like "working under a large extended family." (haha).

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • 3 hours IT training! (need I say more!) There's lots of guidance provided about how to make maximum use of your time during the SVS. And more importantly, whatever events there was, I always saw an "array" of "Deloitte buddies" (mostly graduates that joined the firm for 1-2 years) around. So, there's the opportunity to ask questions about working at the Firm whenever you have one. In terms of technical questions, everyone who's given me work is incredibly willing to answer questions you have about the work and will check up on you to see how you are doing.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The knowledge about Deloitte and the work of the team is VERY useful when preparing for interviews for grad roles and really can put you ahead of those who didn't have this exposure. Also, once you see how it is, then there's the chance to make an informed decision about whether this career is for you. In terms of degree, I didn't do a finance-related subject, but the reasoning skills from the works I did during my SVS would definitely come in handy for final year project reports!

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • It is very well structured. HR is brilliant at making sure you know where to go once the scheme has started. And, there's a LOT of us starting at the same time in London, so I got a bit of the "intake" feel whereby everyone was very friendly with each other because we were all in the same boat. So, even if you'd forgotten it, then just ask one of the other interns!

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The word to use is : SOCIAL ! My team welcomed me and invited to me to various drinks and lunch outs. And there's other general activities like drinks and dinner offered by HR for interns only, which were great as they really ARE generous. (advice is maybe to not eat too much during lunch when you know there's an event in the evening!). Also, Deloitte itself has lots of inter-department and various social events across the Firm, so there's plenty of chances to meet with professionals from all different departments if you are a "social queen".

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Firm has really made good efforts, a number of speakers were invited to give talks during training on the first day, ranging from partners to graduates (which is great because gives you an idea about the career development at the Firm).

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Gave me a very good idea on what a graduate role at the Firm would do because the works I did were the same level as the first year graduates.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • very good. It gave me a sense of what is like to work within a team.
