Tax Associate Review

I was in the tax department for my Summer Vacation Scheme and the team that I was working with really were fantastic. I was fortunate to get a variety of interesting work, despite the internship only being 3 weeks, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Deloitte ensured that we all had at least one buddy in our department to go to for questions, which was very reassuring, but in reality pretty much everyone in the team was willing to go out if their way to help.

There was a mix of being left to have a crack at some individual tasks through to going to the graduate training lectures or having 1 to 1 explanations of concepts.

There was a lot to take away. Realisations such as in company culture and how important the balance of elements is was particularly obvious but also extensions of more general skills such as using new IT software.

We had an initial insight day followed by training so that we were well set up to break off in to our department. I received plenty of feedback for my work which was very useful.

From arriving in the mornings to a friendly atmosphere through to meeting the other SCS students for dinner it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

We had some basic IT training on day 1 before splitting into our service line for further training the next day. In the actual departments I was largely left to get on with work but always had people to ask and would often have time scheduled to have concepts explained by by managers or associates.

I feel I had a really true insight into the firm and was able to find the answers to all prior queries.

Before the internship I had little idea what to expect. The culture at Deloitte was much more relaxed than expected and a great atmosphere to work in. I felt as though everyone just wanted to give an honest feel for how it might be.

While many questions were answered it provided a lot of food for thought.

If travelling beyond our normal commute we were also reimbursed expenses but we were more than adequately payed.

This was truly fantastic. If I had questions about another office or department time would be set aside to have these answered by someone who had worked in that office or transferred to/from that department.

We had a placement dinner and a further drinks event but also we're invited to departmental events. There was a sufficient amount of networking time but not so much that I felt overwhelmed and it was always made clear to us that it was our choice whether to attend or not.

The Deloitte intranet was very useful for this.

Yes. Great experience and definitely one to consider.
