    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I've thoroughly enjoyed my time at Deloitte and will hopefully be able to come back as a graduate once I finish university. The SVS has been very well organised and I felt very much appreciated in my department. I've had hardly any idle time at work as my managers have always factored me in when dividing work.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Every team I've worked with has been welcoming and more than happy to answer any of my questions. I have been given a variety of tasks to complete both on my own and in conjunction with colleagues. I really liked this split as it allowed me to work on parts of the audit usually reserved for more senior employees, while also sharing work with first years and being able to challenge myself on tasks completed on my own. I've received valuable feedback on everything I've worked on which really helped me to improve over the course of the internship.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • It really depended on the work I was asked to complete, but overall I can say that I was never turned down by anyone from first years to senior managers when I had a questions. Everyone made time for answer my questions or help me whenever necessary. I've also spent some time quizzing them on certain aspects of the job and people were always happy to help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I've not gone back to university so far, but I'm sure being faced with issues I've had literally no exposure to before my internship and successfully working my way through them can only be beneficial for my upcoming dissertation as well as work and life in general.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The SVS has been very well organised by student recruitment and within my department to ensure that we would have a varied experience (office <-> client, smaller <-> bigger teams and clients et cetera) in the short time we were there. There were a number of social events organised for us to meet the other interns as well as staff from all grades within the department to give us a great overview. The only thing that seemed not structured enough was the service line induction as it seemed very rushed and technical issues have made it rather unproductive.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Everyone I've met has been lovely and while Deloitte is a professional company, working in teams has been very informal and friendly. I was unsure what to expect, but I've had no issues whatsoever fitting in and I've never dreaded waking up in the morning due to this welcoming atmosphere.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly and open-minded. I've spoken to a lot of people sat nearby even though I have not been working with them/have been formally introduced to them. The teams I worked in were lovely as well - always up for a laugh and sociable while getting the work done.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I thought it was very well organised overall, especially within my department as they have organised our engagements as well as drinks and informal chats with a number of people for us.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Can't really comment on this as we didn't receive a lot of formal training given the short scheme.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I'm currently waiting for my partner interview, so I can't really comment. The feedback I've received has been good, though, so I'm hoping for a graduate job!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Definitely! Our intake has been very sociable across all service lines. We've met up for lunch, dinner, drinks, nights out and other fun stuff around London most days which was lovely. I'm still in touch with a lot of them as well. :)

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Socialising within the department was great. I went to drinks with the team a few times and met lots of different people from the department and beyond due to that. Cost of living is more of an issue in London really, but since we all got paid it wasn't such a huge issue either.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were a few bars, pubs and clubs around the general area where we would go after work. It's a bit of a selection, but nothing too fancy.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Student recruitment and my department have organised multiple events for our intake. On days where nothing official was planned for us we would just organise something fun on our own which was great as well.
