    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I have undertaken work experience at a range of companies and found Savills to be the most enjoyable. I found that i knew the location i was working in, important when doing planning, and found the team to be enjoyable to be a part of, knowledgeable and willing to help.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt like a member of the team and was offered to take part in various social events with the group. It is always difficult to gauge how valued your work is but i felt that my work fed into the work of colleagues, saving them time.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The nature of the placement meant that instead of undertaking one big project throughout my time there, i undertook a range of smaller tasks for team members. In each case i was provided with an introduction about what i was doing and how it fed into the work that was being done. Whilst in some cases i was told how my work was used, the nature of planning meant that in some cases this wasn't possible. Yet this criticism is not levelled at the company or my team, but is a fact of spending a small amount of time working on a project that runs for a long time.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The experience has definitely improved my attention to detail and made me realise how precise one has to be. All the work experience i have undertaken until now has been in England and it has been massively beneficial to undertake work experience in Wales where the planning system is different.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The nature of conducting work experience in the summer when a lot of people are on holiday, combined with me being the only person on work experience meant that there was no major formal structure. However, i didn't find this to be an issue at all because i was constantly kept busy with a range of different tasks and activities outside of the office. If anything this was beneficial as it provided me with the time to do a full range of tasks on a range of projects.

    3/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I found the team a joy to be around. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and approachable. My line manager was always there to help out and look out for me and the head of the team was always approachable. I would 100% be delighted to work within this team in the future and will certainly miss the work place environment.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was only at the company a short time but i feel that the team invested a large amount of time in helping me and provided the opportunity to see a range of activities outside of the office.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight showed me the role planners do day to day, however the long drawn out nature of planning meant that it was not possible for me to see any plans progress through the planning process. This is no fault of the company, but just a fact when working within a process where consultation is so important.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The insight was important in showing me the way that people within a team work together and the ways that the planning team and development teams co-operate on projects.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid in line with other work experience i have undertaken.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I was the only placement student and therefore there were no formal networking occasions. The nature of working in a small office meant that networking was largely undertaken through informal chats about cthe career with team coleagues.
