    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement. The people were all friendly and helpful. The work was rewarding and varied and I felt I learnt a lot as well as saw the theory I had learnt at Uni in practice.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The team I was placed in was really close and I felt included rather than like an outsider. Everyone else that I dealt with within the company were always helpful and friendly.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I felt that my manager was very helpful and explained things if and when I needed it, He is a very busy person so it was sometimes difficult to pin him down but he did always get back to me and spend time going through more difficult tasks.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I think there was always work to do and plenty of tasks to get through however sometimes the tasks involved waiting on others and this dragged some tasks on waiting for others.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the freedom to run parts of projects and I felt comfortable asking for more work when I had completed assigned tasks. I had the right balance of guidance and time to myself to complete given jobs.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I feel that my placement has enhanced my people skills and reinforced the points I learnt in University. I have also had a good taster for the working life and the processes that engineering companies have to complete.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was fairly busy as it was open plan. However there it was not too distracting. Conversations between the team were often interesting and helped with tips for work or personal life.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I think the jobs I was given were useful for my work skills however the pressure of work commitments to the team meant I did not have one singular project throughout the placement, this may have been beneficial but I do not think that the absence was a detriment to my overall placement.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have received some training from the company as well as supplier visits organised by my manager. I have also been to some course in London which I found very useful to my engineering knowledge,

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am have planned to complete my final year project with Siemens hopefully creating a variant of one of their products. We have discussed the possibility of me returning after I graduate however they are unable to plan that far in advance.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was able to sit graduates/colleagues at lunchtime which meant we got to know each other fairly well and I have socialised outside of work with a few people.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was able to move home so I am unable to comment on rent. The area I was based in was more expensive than my Uni town though.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in this area is ok however I am quite a way away from the city centre which means it can be expensive for me to get home.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Some with colleagues. I also spent time with friends from school and Uni as I was able to flex time off.

    4/5
