    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It has been an amazing year - tough in place but so much opportunities do make what you want of it and network with other employees and a big community of other interns.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I really feel like an important member of the team. They value my input and often seek my help with things they're working on.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Sadly four months into my placement my manager, who devoted a lot of time to me, had to leave the company due to illness. She hasn't been backfilled and I took on a lot of her responsibilities which has been a fantastic opportunity for development, but now I report directly to a senior manager who can't dedicate as much time to me.

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Pretty busy all the way through, and at times I had to put in 12 hour days to get through it, but this was all extra stuff outside my core role which I took on - there's always plenty to do but it's completely up to you how much you take on and stretch yourself.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was blown away by the amount of responsibility I've been given considering I was a student last year - for example I've been involved in organising an event for Microsoft's executive customers, and if it went wrong it could have resulted in a loss of revenue for the business!

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The work ethic will be essential in my final year, and I've gained a lot of core skills which employers look for.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I've had some great fun working with other interns and my team at the desk area where I'm based, but when it gets busy people get there noses down and get through it.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well organised and formed of plenty of intern offsites, events, on-boarding, training, mentoring and more. You wont find a better structured internship anywhere.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm is all about personal development, and mentoring and networking forms a core part of the weekly calendar. Lots of people are always willing to invest their time in you.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • MACH scheme presents a great opportunity for coming back to Microsoft when you graduate

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This is probably the best thing about the placement - there are more than 120 interns, I live with 5 of them and it's a very student like experience. I've made some great friends here

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Reading is very expensive compared to the West mids where I'm from

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good night out - if you can afford it! (which you can with the paychecks coming in!)

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Lots of clubs to get involved in - sports, socials etc.

    4/5
