    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found myself enjoying it more and more. At the start of the internship I was a little bit worried that I wasn't going to be able to learn fast enough but as I got more comfortable, I enjoyed it more.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel that my colleagues really valued me as a team member. As soon as I joined the team, they were looking for my opinions and input and they really listened to what I had to say every day. To have my opinions valued really put me at ease when working in the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager regularly met up with me to talk about my progress and to set out goals for the next few days or weeks. I felt that this was a good way of keeping track of my progress and also a really good way to ask for advice. I could also ask anyone in my team including my manager for help if I was unsure about anything.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I didn't feel like I was too busy but it varied from day to day. I'm glad to say that the majority of the time I was given work that I could keep on top of and if I couldn't I could have a quick chat with my manager to discuss the problems that I was having.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • To be honest, it started off quite slow as they needed to find out what I could do and how I worked independently but I was gradually given more and more responsibility as the internship went on. This was understandable as I was just new.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that I have developed will really help me in the future. Some of the things that I improved I wasn't really comfortable with before like working effectively in a team but I feel that the internship has strengthened this to the point that I can say I love working in teams.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I thought that it was the typical office atmosphere. Lots of people busy working on their computers and it was generally quite quiet. I still had the freedom to move around the office though so it wasn't too restrictive.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A couple of months before the internship started I was sent emails informing me of what the internship would be like and how to prepare for it. These emails continued until I started on the first day. I felt that this really helped me to prepare much better and it's a really good idea to do all of the preparation before the first day instead of messing around with these things when real work could be done instead. This level of organisation continued throughout the internship.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They gave me training during the first week of the internship to make sure that I had all of the skills that I needed to succeed and make an impact. I was also offered additional training online if I needed it.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I was offered a graduate role with them!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • On the whole I got along very well with all of the other interns. There were quite a lot of us so I didn't really get the chance to get to know as many of them as I would have liked but I've added them all on Facebook and we keep frequent contact.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It wasn't really as expensive as I was expecting thankfully but it wasn't really that cheap either. It's somewhere in the middle of what I was used to back at home.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was really good. I was quite shocked at the choice that you get here. There's really so many clubs that you can go to. Just a shame that I didn't have enough time to visit them all!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I went to a couple of the events that the company set up for the interns. They were a really good way to get to know the other interns a bit better and to improve my professional network.
