The Role
The work placement was an insightful and reflective experience of the real working world. I was motivated to go to work.
At the beginning I felt I had a marginal effect on the company as it was so vast. However once I demonstrated my skills and showed them my capabilities, I was valued very much like Whitbread employee.
The support was excellent. I was astonished at the amount of support I received when I had an issue. One thing I was very grateful for was that I was the only placement student at the company and so everyone who worked there were older, more experienced and more knowledgeable.
Initially I was not busy however, after propelling myself into many different projects I soon found myself very active on a daily basis. The closer the deadlines the more hectic the days became!
I was given more responsibility as the days went by as I had to more or less prove my work was worthy of being apprrciated.
I learnt skills that will give me a huge advantage in the future world of work. In addition to that, I have learnt essential skills that will help me achieve a top grade in my final year.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was very corporate and mature. I most definitely adapted to the environment and the team I was situated in made me feel at home which made the atmosphere more relaxing. The open plan office is refreshing as you can view all the executive managers and project leaders and have banter with them too.
The only downside of this review was the fact that the organisation of the workplacement was extremely awful. Initially the placement advertised was an Operations role at one of the brands location. When I first arrived they did not anticipate of my arrival and so there was very bad communication on their end. The placement did not have clear and a precise plan as it was completely different to the initial description of the placement. Eventually, I took it into my own hands and was able to start my placement properly at head office in a prominent and beneficial role.
My manager to be precise invested much of his time in me in trying to exposure as much as possible and seeing where projects stem from and the overall process of them from beginning to end.

Future prospects with Whitbread are definitely on the cards as I feel there is much much more I could learn in different departments. Having been exposed to the Quality Assurance side of projects, I feel I could learn more in different roles and departments.
The Culture
Being the only placement student, there were not too many social scenes during my time there. Having said that, an all expenses paid 2 day work event in Milton Keynes was the event highlight of my at Whitbread.
Very cheap compared to London! Luton was very price friendly.
Unfortunately, did not experience any nightlife here as I commuted to Luton from London.
Whitbread as a company do many events and activities outside work. The activities were mostly associated with GOSH - Great Ormand Street Hospital as this is the charity Whitbread are linked to, so it was always for a good cause!
