    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I found the experience very enjoyable as the work was challenging but achievable. The people were very welcoming and supportive. I was treated as a normal graduate for the whole duration so could easily fit into the environment and given responsibility.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • As previously mentioned, I was treated as if I were a graduate and as a result I did not receive any special treatment which I think really helped to integrate me into the team. I was also trusted to do any tasks just as much as my graduate peers which made mew feel particularly valued.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • A lot of support came from the different managers I was working with on my engagements and also came from others such as appraisal managers. What I particularly appreciated was the support given to me for things that managers did not need to get involved with, for example helping me with university assignments.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were some times where I struggled to find work to do, but this was fore warned to me and one of the things you have to learn is to how to find the work which you pick up as time goes on. Apart from this there was a very good balance of busyness.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For one project in particular, I was given project managing responsibilities which gave me a huge insight into the ways Deloitte conduct its business. At this stage I was also able to manage my own schedule and work in meetings and other engagements when it suited me.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Above all, I now have the ability to conduct myself in the office in a professional manner and know the appropriate channels of communication in order to get specific tasks done. I also have some technical knowledge on IT systems and around internal audits. Deloitte provided a large amount of training which ensured that I was ready for challenges within the workplace.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was how I expected with a mixture of people casually talking and others with their headphones in and working hard. There would not generally be a dull atmosphere but not everyone was very approachable, I was told that this is something that comes with working in London!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A lot of aspects were well set up, for example being on mailing lists and invited groups etc. However there was not that much emphasis on meeting other placement students or having socials around the internship.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I had 6 weeks of training at the start. There was training courses all year that I would be able to attend if I so wished.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very good. I have already been offered a place to come back in as a second year graduate.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes, my peer group made a big effort to go to social events sand create our own. There was not much socialising between the placements however, more just within the department.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is very expensive.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are endless options for nights out in London.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was a lot of out of work opportunities. For example I joined the rugby team, played squash, went on community days, joined the gym and went to big charity event days.

    4/5
