The Role
It was genuinely brilliant. I was immersed in FirstGroup culture from day one and it instantly became part of me. I really enjoyed going to work for the business because I knew what I did was valuable (and indeed valued!) and worthwhile.
Everyone was really pleased that young people from non-transport backgrounds were coming in to the business. I was welcomed and encouraged to get further and further involved everyday.
Help was there whenever I needed it. Equally I could work independently. The flexibility was brilliant.
I was contracted for 08:30-17:00 Monday to Friday but I varied my time to include working at weekends when I was working out of the office.
A lot more than I expected, but this was really a great opportunity. It allowed me to really take hold of a project and make it my own.
The skills I developed help me to look at things through a business lens, which was incredibly useful when applying for graduate jobs because I don't do a business-related degree.
The Company
Driven, but fun and light-hearted.
Superb. Ran smoothly.
I was encouraged to apply for the graduate scheme when my internship contract was up.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
National Travel
Working from home
Hugely so. The graduate scheme looks both exciting and rewarding as a future job.
The Culture
I came across other interns only once and that was whilst working an extra day so there was little chance to get to know them better.
I lived at home whilst completing my internship which was preferable to renting etc which can be expensive.
Quite good, but quite expensive.
There are lots of opportunities to do lots of different things, especially sport, in large cities.
