The Role
Fantastic experience.
I was treated as any other new starter to the team. The company implemented pair programming when I started, so I was constantly (necessarily) working at the same level as my given pair.
There were monthly check-ups, and management were very eager to ensure I was making the most of my experience.
There were very few occasions where I had no work to do; some work was more interesting than other work, but there was always something to do.
I was given the responsibility of any other team member, and more when given my own project to run.
I barely remember what I knew before or why it was useful.
The Company
The nature of security work is that it must be taken seriously. The people I worked with were all very fun people.
There were some issues to begin with because of managerial changes. But otherwise I (and others) were just treated as other employees.
The same as any other employee.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Was offered a job.
The Culture
All of the placement students knew each other.
Abingdon is relatively inexpensive given it is in Oxfordshire. But that's a significant condition.
Oxford will always have something on, but Abingdon itself does not have much of a social scene.
A few cycling clubs, etc. but nothing significant.
