    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • First few days there weren't enough jobs and because interns do not have enough tax knowledge to actually give suggestions, sometime there are limited tasks you can do, but we got to participate in exciting meetings.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Our buddies really took care of us, made sure we were not alone during lunch, the IAS office in Reading is very friendly and fun!

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Questions got answered and no one made me feel embarrassed or annoying for asking for more work or asking questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Usually we have enough to do through the day (some times I need to look for more work), but always leave on time!

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was doing a review of the tax liabilities and refund for an international client, which felt like a huge responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It's not really related to my studies but surely helped a lot with office jobs or professional jobs that I will go into when I graduate.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Love our office, lots of food :D

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There were another intern in the same department at the same time so there were not enough work for us both.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were always taken care of, they invested a lot for us to socialize too after work.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I have to wait till next summer to do the final interview for grad scheme because I have an extra year of studies, but some interns who worked with me got an offer already. Though I would say I do not like their policy which priorities local students over students who need a work visa, and therefore will probably not choose them to be my graduate employer.

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Audit interns always worked away from the office so did not get to see them much, but we had lots of socials and departmental events.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pay was good and Reading was cheaper than London so all is well!

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Didn't go out much, but bars were good.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not during the internship period as it was too short but we got to know about lots of things we can get involved with if we end up on the graduate scheme.

    4/5
