    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The placement at Microsoft is a great opportunity for you to get a borad experience across a corporate organisations, there were so many different things going on across the business and always way for you to support different activity whether it be directly related your role or outside of direct commitments.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • At Microsoft although you are on the Intern programme you are not treated any differently to any other employee, you have the same responsibilities and are expected to work just as hard. It is a good way to see what the real working world will be like when you graduate. My team get on great and we do activities to help us team build from going out outside of working hours or going for lunch together.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Microsoft is all about networking and its a great way to see the other opportunities out there, whether that be through internal advice/training/support or external examinations/courses. There are always ways for you to develop and it is important to in an organisation like this as it is a fast pacing organisation. Managers and leadership teams are willing to give up their time to sit down with you and really guide you and provide their experiences. If they see an opportunity that would be good for you then they will encourage you to get involved.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There is always something to do, if your direct commitments are on a slower period then there are other things that you can focus on - training courses or helping others in your team who have a lot on. I have not been bored at work once and my workload does fluctuate during the year but I always projects I can be working on.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I had my own budget and it was my responsibility that we came out on target and did our best not to overspend or underspend. I had my own projects to run that were completely down to me in terms of running it, dealing with any problems in this area, or again if going well would be down to me to.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Day to day life at Microsoft have helped build my confidence, presentations are a regular occurence and part of my working life, key skills have been developed a huge amount as it is part of my day to day work. Things that used to phase me before - don't anymore and I really think it has been a great experience. There has been training available when I have felt I have needed it - internal and external developing technical and core skills.
