    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Overall, it was a great insight into the professional service sector and tax. Personally I didn't think tax was for me, but at least it was a good opportunity to find this out. I think Deloitte seems like a good place to work, nice office, nice people etc, so I may try apply for a role in Consultancy.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Very valued. We got taken out for lots of meals by various people within the firm. Got to shadow partners. Everyone seemed to have lots of time to chat and explain things, so I learnt lots.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Lots. I had a buddy that was a first year who I sat next to who gave me pieces of work and informal support. Me and 3 other interns shared a 'champion' who oversaw the programme and came round to see us at least once a day to check that we had work.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I do chemical engineering, so tax isn't really relevant at all. I hope I don't end up in a tax related career.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Lots of socials planned. People were keen to invite me along to shadow them at client meetings. Our champion arranged for people working in different areas of tax to meet up to talk with us several times. Induction event in Solihull was a bit pointless, but nice to stay in a fancy hotel for a night.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I had a good time with the other interns. There were about 11 in my office. Everyone was friendly in the office and really keen to find work for us to do and to help us out. Got to know the first year associates quite well. Also got taken out for lunch and had quite a bit of interaction with the partners.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We didn't get much training at all as it was only a 3 week internship. The induction event didn't really offer any training so seemed pointless. However, informally I still learnt quite a lot from just talking to people and from shadowing and doing work. I imagine the training offered at a graduate role level is really good. We only got trained in how to use our laptops, but this seemed very professional.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Very good as we got a chance to work with some of the first year associates on things like tax returns and computations. But also worked with managers/directors on their projects, even though my role was usually just typing things up or putting clip art on a presentation, it still allowed me to have a good idea of what was going on. I also got to write part of a transfer pricing report, which was good.

    4/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I really liked the culture of Deloitte. The great number of socials gave us all a good chance to ask questions in an informal setting so we could get more honest opinions of what it is really like to work at Deloitte. People seemed to generally like the culture and lifestyle, but not always the actual work.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I found out that I found tax a bit dull, but business stuff in general seems quite interesting. I got to work on lots of different areas in tax such as compliance, m&a, real estate and transfer pricing which was quite useful as they all seemed quite different so was a good experience.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Very generous pay and didn't actually have to work very hard.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • This was the best bit! We got a chance to meet all the interns in the regional offices at a 2 day induction event at the start. Then in week 1 we got taken out for lunch/dinner 3 times with various people. Then in week 2 and 3 we had 2 evening socials. Deloitte seemed to have a very generous budget for socials.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Mostly really good. All quite relaxed and fun. Lots of nice free food and drinks.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • No, we weren't there long enough really to join in, but a few people mentioned that they did stuff.

    3/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, this will give you a really good insight into Deloitte. I think myself and most of the other interns had a good time.
