    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was very challenging at first, however, support was always there and colleagues were more than happy to help. There was a decent amount of responsibility given to you, but everyone made sure you weren't overwhelmed at any time. I felt like I got a really helpful insight into the industry and how it would be to work in a professional firm. It has done nothing but confirm that this is what I want to do as a career.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued. The work I was given ranged from what a graduate would do to the simpler aspects of what a manager would do. I felt as though the work I was given was intentionally designed to make me think about my career long term rather than just straight out of university.

    5/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I was given a reasonable explanation of anything I had to do to begin with. Then if I felt like I needed more support it was made clear that I didn't just have to rely on the person who gave me the task for help. That made it very easy to get everything done efficiently as I wasn't having to wait for a specific person to have a free moment for a discussion.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I would say, if anything, it gave me an invaluable awareness of what will be required in terms of study as well as work for a graduate position. If I have been successful with my graduate interview, I will feel more accustomed to the systems that I will be training in.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Extremely well. Everyone doing an internship gathered together in Birmingham for an induction which let us all meet new people as well as those who would be with us in our office for the three weeks we would be there. Throughout the internship, I felt I had been given work that each member of staff had put considerable thought into giving me and there were many opportunities to meet staff in a more social situation.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Everyone was so helpful and welcoming. Even people who weren't in my department made an effort to speak to me and make sure I was enjoying my time here. Also managed to get some good banter going with the staff in my department due to various competitive social events.

    5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Since the internship was only three weeks long, there wasn't too much time for training before starting. The first day was spent training however, the rest of the time was on a learn as you go basis. Personally I found this to be extremely valuable as I was not expected to know what I was doing. I was encouraged to ask questions and really think about what I was doing. This taught me a lot about the work I was doing but also about myself as a person. From Deloitte's perspective I imagine this helps to show whether you're the kind of person they would want working permanently with the firm, based on how you approach the work as well as your ability to communicate with staff.

    4/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It gave me a great understanding. I was told about what I would be doing if I was a graduate and was able to have a go at doing the work too.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The culture is very focused on the people within the firm. You can tell they want the most talented and committed people, but they also want to help you develop so you can be even better. Feedback seems to be a very important part of the process and everyone was more than willing to give this when requested.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I was pretty sure I wanted to do Tax before I started but it completely confirmed this for me. Now I know what I want to do I can seriously focus on what I need to do to get there.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid around £1,300-£1,400 for the three weeks I was there. I was also reimbursed for the expenses involved in the trip to Birmingham for the induction.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There was at least one night every week. Even before I had started at Deloitte I was invited to their annual pub quiz. During the three weeks we went out for various meals and drinks. Also had a bowling/crazy golf night which was great. Everyone was extremely welcoming and keen to make sure you could join in with the social events.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were a lot of fun. Always felt included and there was a generous budget for the interns to go for dinners and whatever we fancied doing. Also made it a lot easier to chat to people who you don't necessarily work with every day.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There seemed to be quite a few nights where people would play different sports and I was invited along to lots of those. Also seemed to be quite a few charity events that staff could get involved with. As I was only there for a few weeks I wasn't able to participate but I got the impression that if I was there as a graduate I would be more than welcome to participate in anything.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely, I think it's the best thing I've done for my future career.
