  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The company runs on an open door policy, where no question is too big or small. This makes your day to day job easier as there is always an opportunity to talk to a manager or colleague if you are having any trouble. At the end of the day, there are there to help you!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Dependant on your job role, the workload can come in peaks and troughs. I found that I would be busy during certain periods of the month and used the rest of the time in order to take on project work.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The company treats you as an employee, not a student, so don't expect to making the teas or photocopying all day! You are given a real job role within the organisation.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • You are encouraged to learn new skills and attend various training sessions. This does not only help you throughout your placement, but ensures that you have several transferrable skills to take back to university and for the rest of your career.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A very structured layout made it so much easier to settle down and work effectively. There was a detailed plan for the first six weeks of your placement, which was the integration period, followed by taget and goal setting with your manager; these were reviewed quarterly.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It depends on how much you want it! You will find that interns who put in the time and effort get the most from their placement year. I think that Intel also recognises this and can offer jobs to interns based on whether spaces are available in particular departments.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • With up to 60 interns, the social atmosphere was very good. Everyone is in the same boat as you and get along very well with one another. There are a number of clubs that you can join, so the sports and social aspect was very appealing for me. An organised weekend in Amsterdam with over 20 interns remains one of the highlights of the year!

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Dependant on the house or flat you rent, living can be very cheap. I found that rent prices are a lot lower in Swindon than in other areas of the country.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are a few bars and clubs dotted around Swindon, but seeing as it is not a university town, it is quite limited on the nightlife front. I often found that socialising with friends at house parties were a better way to spend your time, but venturing into town on the occasional weekend was enjoyable all the same.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I played for the Intel football team on Saturdays, which was a good way to meet other people you wouldn't neccessarily work with on a day to day basis. Other interns were also involved in community projects and had oportunities to teach younger children in schools.
