    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • On a day-to-day basis, my role involved staying up to date with SOPs that global teams continuously updated to improve efficiencies and in line with CRM system upgrades. I needed to identify the implications of CRM system upgrades to see how they might impact internal and internal users. I also searched for opportunities to improve the efficiency of existing processes using digital automation technologies, mainly relating to data. Finding automation projects meant working with stakeholders from across the sales and marketing group in EMEA.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • During my placement at Intel, I learned the importance of constantly improving to build unique combinations of skills that synergise to create incredible value. The skills that I learned included building a network, communicating with stakeholders, solving complex problems, and decision theory. I developed my technical coding ability in Javascript, Python, and DAX. I used Microsoft 365 tools, mainly Excel, to an advanced level. And I learned the importance of self-reflection to improve my behaviour incrementally.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Throughout my placement, I had responsibility. At one point, I led CRM support for EMEA. This task was crucial as Intel’s sales team relied on the data contained in the CRM tool to log deals, track KPI targets, and provide information when working with customers. Running this support operation required quick decision-making to resolve incoming problems promptly, even if communications from the global HQ didn't contain solutions. I depended on my intuition but wasn't afraid to seek help from international teams when necessary.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received lots of support and guidance during my placement from across the company. Everyone was eager to explain complex concepts and advise me where possible. No question was a wrong question, and mistakes were an opportunity to learn. Alongside me was a cohort of around 60 interns. We built close relationships and helped each other through thick and thin. I always felt someone was available to listen to me and work through roadblocks with me.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture and general atmosphere were one constant push to become the best version of you. Learning and development were highly encouraged. During busy periods, we were encouraged to take breaks for our wellbeing. The office had a cafe, massage chair, exercise classes, and free fruit that allowed employees to destress and breathe. Managers had an open-door policy and would eagerly listen to and alleviate any concerns. I had free access to online tools like the meditation app Headspace, which I have found incredibly useful and continue to use.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. The opportunity to make lifelong friends and learn a lot is much appreciated. The team were supportive throughout and valued my work. I felt that I could create real value within the company and that, with enough effort on my part effort, the possibilities were vast. The only thing to improve is the location. Swindon is not the most lively of places, but the people made it a year to remember. Overall, I would highly recommend pursuing a placement at Intel to any potential candidates out there.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Intel Corporation
  • I would advise others applying to Intel Corporation to focus on their willingness to learn. The culture greatly values learning and development, and since the role is high-paced, you will be required to keep on top of lots of changing information and required skills. It's also crucial that you bring a positive attitude. The glass is half full at Intel. There are a variety of roles available in customer support, sales, marketing, business intelligence, and technical, so choose one that matches your unique skill set.
