    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic experience; so much opportunity to get involved in other aspects.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • 90% of the work force in my department are old interns so they really value interns. We are treated like any other member of the team and given "real" work to do.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You are trained for a month by the intern you are taking over from who gives you super insight and advice on how to manage the job. You also have an "on-the-job-coach" who is someone in your team who is a little younger in your team who you can go to for help and advice. I met with mine in the first 6months every week and then once I was completely settled, every couple of weeks or when I needed to discuss something. We had an overall intern manager who was really helpful with suggestions of how to get involved in other projects and a team manger who looks after the team. I met with these once a month

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The nature of my role meant that I sometimes was super super busy and at other times was searching for things to do, especially once I got to grips with my core role. It did mean that I could get involved in other projects and find out about other parts of the company.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Anything that I was given/got involved in was completely my responsibility.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Definitely an eye-opener into the technology and business world. Can see real life examples of theories being put into practice.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Work hard/play hard. Intel is a relatively young company in terms of it's demographic especially within operations so there is lots to get involved in.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It's been running for years so super organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There's a program called Intel University where you can sign up to lots of different course, everything from presentation skills, to communication styles.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • OK, they seem to leave it quite a while before offering grad jobs which is slightly anoying but on average about 5/15 interns get hired back each year

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Swindon is not the most exciting of places but we try to make the most of it. Bushies is good on a thursday night and old town is full of bars which is a nice change to student packed clubs. There are weekly intern football matches, and we have an intern student committee that organise nights out in reading and holidays away in Amsterdam etc.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Not in london and not a uni town so not too shabby :)

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not being a student town means the night life leaves something to be desires. Bath/Bristol/Reading are not too far away and nice for a change every once in a while.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The sports and social club arrange loads of activies that you can take part in for a discounted cost. I got involved in golf and tennis lessons. They do go-karting and theatre trips, gigs, days out, pretty much anything. In the local area there are lots of activity centre and being on the edge of the cotswolds means lovely walks and vllages for when the rents come to visit!
