The Role
I spent 2 weeks in the IP department which meant I got to spend time both in court and with associates.
I had a really good variety of work from all members of the team, including researching and producing exhibits of evidence for court.
I was sat with an associate but all members of the team would pop in to check how I was getting on. I also had a trainee mentor which worked really well.
I had plenty to do but work wasn't forced on me when I was already busy.
The work I was given was a definite contribution; I also shadowed counsel for a day which was really interesting.
We did a negotiation workshop which included prior training which was really fun. We also had very useful department talks where the partners were very open about life at the firm.
The Company
The team I was part of was very young and all went to lunch together, I was always invited. It had an open-door atmosphere and everyone was very approachable, including the partner.
We got paid weekly and were given an information booklet at the start of the scheme.
We had lots of fun activities to do both individually and in groups that gave us a good insight into the skills necessary to be a trainee.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Everyone seemed to love working there; we were all given an opportunity to interview for a training contract during the scheme.
The Culture
We all got on really well and ate lunch together; the socials organised by the firm were brilliant - the first night we had a sushi making course with dinner which was original!
Normal for London
It was an easy commute to all of the socials that we went to and there were lots of pubs and bars within walking distance of the firm.
One good night was the future joiner's boat party - it was interesting to talk to those who were about to join the firm and why they chose to go there.
