    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • A varied and challenging body of work in different departments across Deloitte which was a good representation of what first-year grads do. Hard but not impossible!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Obviously difficult as a summer scheme student but my team did a great job of congratulating me on the work I did well and gave me real responsibility without being unrealistic. Social side was also very good too as I was always invited out for drinks on various occasions and everyone was generally really friendly.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everybody was willing to lend a hand when needed - the rule of 'no such thing as a stupid question' is true here but make sure you don't end up asking the same thing over and over.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In Audit on occasion I found myself with not a lot to do as working on one client means you are waiting for them to prepare documents etc for you which can be frustrating, however the more experienced you become here the more you can plan your time. In tax the workload was very good as I was working on several clients at once.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As a summer student at Deloitte you fill pretty much the role of a first-year student which comes with a lot of responsibility but your team is always there to help.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Some things are very professional-services specific (obviously!) but the general interpersonal and work skills you acquire, as well as simple tips I picked up on how to conduct yourself from more experienced colleagues, will be very useful and a great confidence boost.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Work-hard, play-hard! The people I got to work with were great fun but you do of course have to get your work done which is to be expected.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Overall it was very well-organised - we even got put up in a posh hotel for 3 nights for our induction.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • A great deal as they are looking to hire most of the summer scheme students. Everyone in the office was always willing to help and from what I've heard the personal development is very extensive for grads as Deloitte pays for your qualification.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • A variety of service lines to go for offering different professional qualifications (ACA, CTA etc) and they look to advance you very quickly. Encouraging!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • A good atmosphere was fostered amongst the placement students and plenty of drinks etc were organised along the way.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Already live in Bristol as I study there at uni. The city isn't the cheapest (it is in the South!) but far cheaper than London.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Having been a student there for 3 years already, Bristol night-life is great!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As said plenty of drinks, meals etc. Netball and cricket teams were also running while I was there - I didn't get involved though people do encourage you to if you're interested.

    5/5
