    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • On the whole, very interesting. Odd bits were a bit slow (e.g. the start of some rotations, when boss was too busy on Mondays to set tasks, so spent the morning/day reading passively about what the desk does).

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Very valued. Everyone was friendly and helpful, and also allowed me to get involved in useful things and then sincerely thanked me for my help

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Apart from the odd very busy day, my managers were supportive and always had time for me

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days were slow, some were very busy. On average, about right, but a few too many days were one way or the other

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots. Wrote emails to be sent to clients on my first rotation, and was involved in calculating trading volumes on my second.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Will be very useful if I get a job offer. Not useful for my degree, nor for many other careers.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • People were generally happy and friendly, despite the poor economic environment

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The intern-wide events were very organised, but some desks were clearly not used to having interns so weren't sure what to do with me

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • We were given 3 full days of training, and then various other training events during the internship

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • UBS would be my top pick out of the banks

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Pub a couple of times a week, but nothing on Saturdays or Sundays

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • £4.50 a pint!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Everyone was in suits and the prices/atmosphere were designed to match

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • If you went looking, there were loads

    4/5
