    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?

    • Enjoyed it much more than I had anticipated - and I had expectations. IPP was amazing, great hours and incredible line manager, but not exactly what I was looking for in terms of the type of work I was doing. Rotation in FICC was disastrous - the work was fine and products were interesting, people were nice but my line manager was tough. The entire time, I've very much enjoyed making use of the other people around on the trading floor and how much they're willing to teach.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?

    • Very much by IPP, not at all by EM sales. Became very good friends with more than I had expected.

    • If not from my supervisor, from others around.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?

    • In terms of how much work I was given, not very busy, but I made myself busy by sittin gwith other people and taking the time to research the topics I was interested in.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?

    • A good amount on IPP. None in FICC (understandable as I was only there for 2 weeks) , and hopefuly a good amount on my current desk.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    • Didn't know anything before. Now I know much more about markets and the ways they work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?

    • Dull on IPP. Really intense in FICC. Amazing on the equities trading floor - perfect balance of productivity and fun.

    • Amazing.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

    • Much more than I had anticipated, especially with the teach ins and market wraps. Certain individuals definitely made themselves more available to teach all of us interns even though we're definitely not all getting jobs.

    • Nobody seems to be hiring! I would love to get a job though.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?

    • Really liked all of them, and most of us made an effort to get to know each other. Found that there was a huge divide according to the different divisions we were in though.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?

    • Live about an hour away - don't know the cost of living and socialising around here - max I do around the office is grab a drink after work, which was fine.

    • Not sure - generally go out in other areas as I live far away.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?

    • Technically there were opportunities but work was my priority this summer so probably didn't recognise the opportunitie available.
