The Role
I really enjoyed it. What I really appreciate is that my team allowed me to go away some days and just learn certain things. My teams was quite complicated in the models it uses, so they gave me breathing space to absorb all of this.
Somewhat; I think thoughsome of the work I did they could have done in 5 mins. Nontheless, they were very welcoming and made me feel as a part of the team.
They were very helpul in this respect. Everytime I dodn't understand something, someone in the team was there to help. My work was checked regularly, which was a good foundation to learning where I went wrong etc.
Some days were busier than others. I had to run some reports and those days were non-stop, but other days were more relaxed, and I was given freedom to do some reading/learning.
Some work that I was given was important information for the team, and many people relied on it. Other work was set to give me a better understanding of the systems/models used in the team, which was good! As an intern, I don't think you could be givent hat much repsonsibility, anyways?
Very useful. It has definately given me a basic understanding on financial markets/jargon.
The Company
I was on the trading floor, so it was always hectic/loud. People generally just get on with their work though, so there is little banter.
Overall, good. I would have preferred a bit more financial training at the beginning, however. One day was based on a motivational skills workshop, which I think was a waste of time for us and a waste of money for UBS. More time should be invested in specific training and not just presentations/talk about "the financial world".
Not so much the program, but my team helped me a lot with understanding finance-related concepts and gave me a lot of recources to help me. Luckily, one person in my team was a grad so had a lot of stuff to give me.
Don't really know. Banks usually tell you they're so much different from other banks because of their "culture", but they're all the same. It all depends on the people in your team.
The Culture
Yes, with the other interns. But, I didn't really get involved.
Very expensive area, but lived with friends so was quite lucky. Social scene... well, there's anything you want in London.
I'm guessing very good. Again, it's London so whatever you want...
Probably, but don't really know and don't really care.
