The Role
I have really enjoy my time on placement - best decision I've made since going to univeristy! Its been such a great experience and I've gained some really great contacts and have even had some job offers from when I finish university.
I felt that I was valued as an employee & friend. I've had great feedback - putting in hard work and going the extra mile for others has given people respect for me and want to keep in touch.
My manager and collegues have enhanced my placement experience, they have given constant support during my time here, giving me the chance to use my initiative and step up out of my role as intern.
The gaming industry is very seasonal, between September to March we are extremely busy and then there are some months which are a lot quieter than others.
I was given a lot more responsibility than what was suggested on the job description - which was amazing. The last month of my placement one of the product managers left and I was given some his responsibilites - which I have taken on and loved!
Absolutely skills for life. I have been given a the opportunity to work in the most successful company within in the gaming industry and I will have the skills, knowledge and confidence to go back to univeristy with determination to do well. A years placement makes you more attractive to companies when looking for graduate positions.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was great - being in a gaming industry everyone understands how to have a bit of fun and not take things to seriously. Also have gaming consoles and TVs in the office helped.
This is the 5th year that EA have taken on a marketing intern as well as a PR intern, so they have set jobs and roles for the student to do. I also had a weekly meeting with my manager which is were we set objectives and aims for the following weeks and months.
When I initially joined I went on a small training course which told me all about the company and how EA think as a company. I have also had internal training on the individual programs.

EA don't have a graduate scheme in the UK - they do in America which I have been informed about so there is opportunity if looking abroad. Also they do occasionally create product manager assistants, so there are ways. However I have made so many contacts throughout the year from other companys I don't think even in this economy that I will have trouble getting a job.
The Culture
There was only myself and the PR intern, and he lived out of town so rarely stayed after work to go to the pub, however my collegues aalways enjoyed an opportunity to go have a good laugh so this didn't really bother me.
I was based in Guildford and being so close to London house prices were high as well as cost of living, but I would always make time to go out.
It wasn't too bad, again living in Guildford there wasnt many big clubs as London isn't very far away. But there are lots of bars and restaurants which suited my needs.
I joined the local leisure centre and went to Zumba and spinning classes.
