The Role
I had the most enjoyable placement year during my time with EA. The company was excellent to myself and the other interns in that we were constantly given fun but relevant/important tasks within each of our roles.
Very much so - especially by my line manager. Over the course of the year I'm confident in the fact that I built a good working relationship within the UKI team to which I was based and was made to feel very welcome and values from day 1.
My line manager made himself available to me as often as he possibly good. There were times where more contact may have been useful, but due to various reasons, there were several months where he was essentially covering multiple roles at the same time. Nobodies fault, just one of those things..
There were definite quiet/busy periods throughout the FY and I'm someone who can struggle when I don't feel like there's much to be doing. But over the course of the year I found myself being rather busy on a more constant basis - and only wanting to make myself feel busier due to the largely engaging work I covered.
In short, plenty. I had to attend regular meetings with senior members of stuff, often contributing to its contents. I covered some albeit basic, but important nonetheless, tasks for my line manager whilst he was on PTO. The responsibility only grew as the year went on, something I very much liked.
Hugely, the theoretical gains of a degree are arguably surpassed by the real-world experience my 12 month placement at EA will offer me. Taking a year out of study to work was the best decision I'd made since deciding on University in the first place.
The Company
The atmosphere was one of the best parts of the EA office. The casual-clothing combined with open-desk spaces resulted in a very relaxed culture - something I liked a lot. There was no micro-management, everyone trusted each other to complete tasks in their respective roles successfully. There was a games area for when employees needed a break as well as a newly refurbished cafe which acted as a nice location for more 'relaxed' meetings.
Very well for each of the 4 interns (including me) within the UKI team. I would say mine maybe slightly less so due to the role only being a year old before I'd joined. Once I'd been on board for a couple of months and 'fleshed' the role out a little, organisation of the role was perfect.
My boss, wherever possible, was always prepared and enthusiastic in investing time with me such that I could expand on my responsibilities within the business.

It is a real shame that there are no official grad-roles within the EA UK team. However, I was fully aware of this before committing to the role and I am now actively searching for any potential employment within the organisation.
The Culture
Myself and the other interns did build up strong relationships between us and there were a lot of tasks that we'd complete as a group of 4. Also, a nice touch from HR, was to organise lunches with us interns and some of the HR team as a chance to discuss our experiences within EA
Guildford is annoyingly, one of the most expensive 'student-towns' outside of Central London. It is annoying, but not so much of an issue that it wasn't even a factor in my decision around whether or not to join EA.
My University is based in the same town so I knew Guildford well before signing up to the role. Guildford has plenty of bars/restaurants, but that's about as far as it goes. This didn't hold the company back from a social perspective though. We still went for regular lunches in our various teams as well as going on an annual offsite trip together.
I was involved in and actually still attend a weekly session of football with various employees from the building.
