    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Fantastic work experience, given a huge amount of responsibility and learnt an absolute ton about the games industry. Loads of perks to the job, interns are given the chances to do things that have meaningful impact and feel important. Office environment is warm and friendly and it's really easy to settle in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues always said thank you and congratulated you when you did something well. Felt like a part of the team and was always given responsibility and opportunities. Lots of team-building exercises and chances to connect with colleagues that contributed to a really nice team to work with. Everyone gets on and helps each other and if you ever had a question someone could always help you.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Given weekly checkups/catch-ups with your boss to discuss how you were getting on, how you were coping with your workload etc. Plenty of chances to schedule more frequent meetings if needed but I didn't feel the need. Whenever I had a question or didn't know how to do something my boss would always be on hand to help or teach me and was a great help to my all-round learning experience.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Business goes in cycles at EA due to the games industry in general. In Autumn/Christmas period I was incredibly busy and every day was filled with new things to do as we were launching multiple triple A titles! After Christmas things died down a little and became more about the planning for next years games - there is still plenty of opportunities and work around you just have to search for it a bit harder!

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Given a huge amount of responsibility for an intern, way more than I ever could have hoped. You get put in charge of meaningful tasks that don't feel forced or 'for the sake of it' - you can see the impact the work you are doing is having on the real world which is an amazing feeling! If you are feeling the pressure though there is always co-workers to assist you and help you through things you feel out of your depth with so the responsibility never really feels too much

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed will be hugely helpful in my degree studies and beyond - I did a huge amount of creative work with assets, something that's important for my degree and in future the communications and PR skills I developed will definitely have a huge impact on my potential employability and my confidence when going for jobs.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Hard-working, productive atmosphere but always had it's fair share of office banter and fun. Everyone was always very friendly and got on with each other, no office issues whatsoever. When I first started everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly and treated me as a part of the team from Day 1. Plenty of office events and chances to bond as a team over the year as well organised by our office!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised, I was consistently informed before starting about where, when and what I needed to do and bring before starting, and my induction and first few days I received all the training I needed to succeed. 12 months is a rare internship at EA with only the UK having them but I feel it's a great structure for one and gives you more than enough time to settle in and start properly learning about the industry. HR and Payroll were very helpful and always assisted with any queries I had.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Plenty of training opportunities throughout the year, learnt about Google Analytics as well as getting more general Mindfulness training and having lots of workshops to help with coping with office life. These were organised by HR and felt really useful!

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Future employment only is really an option if a position becomes vacant - there isn't really any graduate roles. More past interns have started the last few years, however, with 3 ex-interns now working there so there is clearly some chance of getting a job if you work hard enough!

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There is 4 interns at EA, and we had a good social scene between us as we did go out as a group relatively often. Would be nice to be able to network with other interns in the area but having 4 interns was more than enough and always felt I had friends in the same boat as me for university work etc.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Guildford is a very expensive place to live and housing is very difficult to find, it's the one downside of the placement as it's incredibly hard to find suitable housing. Drinks prices and cost of living is high as it's very similar to London price-wise. The area is very nice however and you'll very much enjoy living here - it's just getting here that's the issue!

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was good! Plenty of bars/clubs to go to in Guildford that aren't amazing but do the job, if you want to go further afield London is always an option and obviously has a fantastic nightlife scene!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Huge amount of opportunities to do activities out of work - I went to numerous high-profile awards ceremonies, games conferences and games festivals like EGX and Insomnia. Opportunities are always there if you just ask and people are more than happy to get you involved!
