The Role
I loved my time at EA! What surprised me the most was how well i was treated. I thought i'd be treated as an 'Intern' but i was fully involved in decision making and planning meetings etc.
Everyone was so welcoming and made every new starter feel right at home. Regardless of if you were an intern or not.
My managers were always providing feedback in the way I was working and how we could improve our team and working environment. I was also tasked with giving my managers feedback and potential improvements they could make going forward.
Working in the games industry meant work was fairly seasonal. I'd find i was busy non-stop some days and some days it was fairly quiet which enabled me to sort out my university assignments.
A lot more than i was expecting that's for sure! I was involved with projects across Europe and was always involved in the planning process and daily working tasks.
I've learnt so much while on placement and feel i'm in a great position to use the skills i've learnt back into my studies next year! I feel finally having a practical example in which i can apply what i've learnt in my studies will be invaluable.
The Company
The office environment at EA was fairly relaxed, we would wear smart casual clothing every day. Also a lot of activities and fun days around the launch of titles
Extremely organised, it was like a full time job! you we're given key roles and responsibilities that you had to own on a daily bases.
We had 3/4 training days and further opportunities. These were with full members of staff so the company clearly invested the same amount of time/effort/money in us contractors than them!
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
I would love to come back to EA! However there isn't a graduate scheme currently so opportunities may be limited unless you really impress!
The Culture
There were 4 of us interns in the marketing department who would regularly socialise outside of work. The employees at EA are fairly young so there was a lot of opportunity to socialise outside of working hours.
Guildford isn't the cheapest area to live in the country but it's definitely manageable. Students deals can be found across the town and with fast links to london it's a nice area to live in!
Guildford isn't the cheapest area to live in the country but there is the local SU at Surrey that is open to Students and Non-Students from time to time as well as a few clubs and bars in the town centre! I'm sure if you're used to a busy town/city then you'd be a bit disappointed bu your options in Guildford. However, Guildford is very close to London!
There are clubs and fitness sessions outside the working day. We attended a few awards in London and went on company offsites.
