    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I am a software tester, so I carry out manual testing on applications that have been updated to check the software is still performing as it should. Day to day it involves speaking to application experts to understand the app, creating test cases and writing scripts for testing an app, updating documentation such as a test plan and test report. Also, for the automation it involves coding to write automated test scripts

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I have been given a lot of responsibility in my internship. I have the same role as the permanent members of the software testing team and with this has come the same responsibilities, but I have always had the support of my team if I am unsure or have made a mistake. Having the same role means I have been the sole software tester on a project and I have been responsible for all software testing related work carried out on a project, this has given me exposure to many teams and meant I can understand what a full time role would be like whilst still being in a safe and supportive environment

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture is extremely friendly. I have made so many office friends just from being sat near them. The office operates hot desking and people you end up sat next to are always friendly. Also, bumping into people in the corridor or kitchen everyone is friendly. There is also a large intern and graduate cohort which is really supportive and friendly and full time employees are always really supportive when you mention you are an intern. The managing director of the company always pops round the office for a chat and is really friendly and approachable.
