Overview
My role involves assisting with the planning and operation of flight/ground testing within various programmes. I have responsibilities across these projects, including coordinating and tracking the training of test crews and the operation of developmental uncrewed systems. This involves; Logistical planning of a test phase, working with various stakeholders across the world to ensure that a test will run smoothly. Working on developmental projects, including research, planning, system operation, and weeks away from the office for testing. Running and taking minutes of monthly internal meetings. Assisting in the development and regular review of team processes and documentation, which can be requirements for a test phase.
Skills
I have become better at prioritising tasks and efficiently allocating my resources to ensure timely completion of assignments to meet tight deadlines. I have also developed a better understanding of how to effectively convey information and engage in meaningful interactions within my team, whether this be written or verbally. Through working in a large team for the first time, I have gained collaboration skills. These have allowed me to quickly build relationships and work effectively with diverse teams, whilst navigating the complexities of working across different cultures and time-zones. All of these skills have helped me to contribute to a productive work environment.
Responsibilities
I've been given plenty of responsibility. This ranges from being responsible for coordinating and tracking crew training in the run-up to flight test, to owning and producing various documents for pre-test reviews. I have also been operating a developmental uncrewed system for flight test, which comes with huge responsibility.
Support & Guidance
Although I have been given various responsibilities and tasks, guidance is always at hand. Everyone in my team is very supportive and approachable, always willing to help and answer any questions I have. My manager has been there to support me at any time, and the early careers HR team stay in touch. The support system for early careers is very accessible.
Culture
My team has been very welcoming and supportive, making the transition from university to full-time work very easy. The team is very close-knit with a good atmosphere. The company has clear priorities and morals, ensuring a positive working environment.
Your Impressions
I've thoroughly enjoyed my placement and will be sad to leave! I have been given some amazing opportunities and have learnt so much from the people I work with. I couldn't have asked for a better introduction to the workplace.
