Overview
I am a systems architect so I design and oversee the structure of complex systems ensuring they meet business requirements and function efficiently. I primarily work within the defence sector so I will be modelling programs which will be used by the MOD and Boeing alike.
Skills
I have learnt how to use new programs such as Enterprise Architect. I have also learnt how to model in the Archimate 3.0 language. I have gained a lot more technical proficiency as I am able to have a stronger understanding of hardware and software and the way in which these work together. I have also developed my soft skills. For example, I have held my own meetings, presentations and interacted and through these I have built a network of colleagues and clients.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility and treated just like a normal employee. I was given similar workloads but a much larger room to make error and learn from my mistakes.
Support & Guidance
I had a wealth of support and guidance. From the Early careers cohort and network all the way to the Early career leads and managers I never felt isolated or confused on where to get answers to any questions I had.
Culture
The company culture was great and relaxed and the general atmosphere was the same. I didn't feel micromanaged and every person was happy to help no matter when I asked them. It felt like a great family of extremely knowledgeable people.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my internship so much so that I will be continuing on to the graduate scheme. I gained a wealth of experience and met some incredible figures within the industry. There is so much support and opportunity that I could not ask for more.
Yes
Just to be yourself and be proactive. Make sure to take advantage of every opportunity that comes yours way. Immerse yourself in all the happenings as there is so much going on.
