    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As a member of the Savills Residential Property Management team, I will be worked alongside contractors and onsite teams to maintain the smooth running of estates. This ranged from the upkeep of the gardens and communal areas, to 100+ occupancy residential blocks. In addition, I will provided advice and aid to clients, leaseholders and contractors to set service charge budgets, and to carry out consultations for major works and long-term agreements.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • My placement year provided me with valuable learning opportunities to help me develop various skills and knowledge in the field of residential management, as well as gaining a wider understanding of surveying as a whole. This past year has provided me with a greater understanding of the property industry, how a company operates, and refined hard and soft skills. These skills include written and verbal communication, active listening, time management and teamwork.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The culture and general atmosphere at Savills sets it apart from that of other companies. Savills has a different 'personality'; focusing on comradeship and opportunism. I completed the year with refined and developed knowledge of the Property Industry. However, most crucially, I left Savills with new friends, who I'm sure will be friends for life.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • This past year has provided me with valuable learning opportunities to help me develop various skills and knowledge in the field of residential management, as well as gaining a wider understanding of surveying as a whole. Over the year, I have gained a more in-depth understanding of property management practices. Including: tenant relations, lease agreements, and health and safety compliance. Reflecting on the remarkable year I have spent at Savills, whilst I am looking forward to head back to exeter, I am heavyhearted to be leaving behind the great friends I have made and the experiences had.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • The biggest piece of advice I would give to others applying to Savills would be to get stuck in, both professionally and socially. My placement year provided me with a wealth of opportunities that have made the hard work wholly worth it.
