  • Conducting laboratory investigation. Performing maintenance of various analysers and equipment. Conducting both external and internal quality control. Adhering to standard operating procedures. Communicating with both colleagues and service users. Booking in samples to the Laboratory information management system.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot. I was typically left to independently cover breaks and lunches in the haematology lab.There was high instance of staff sickness leading me to take on extra responsibility.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The placement tutor didn't bother to email or reply so I didn't get any support from the university. However my training officer and colleagues in the lab were extremely helpful in guiding me through the process.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Can be very stressful and high pressured due to lack of staff but all staff were friendly, helpful and offered advice.
