  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Processing patient samples, reading previous days Agar plates to look for significant bacterial growth. To perform antibiotic sensitivity testing and report results.

  • Many, how to process samples, booking in, using the LIMS system, how to safely handle samples. Learning processes and analysers. Reading bacteria morphology, understanding antibiotics.

  • Yes, once confident I would be given responsibility for a job. A biomedical scientist would just watch over me and make sure I was competent.

  • I had a training officer in microbiology and an overall training lead. I would have weekly 1 to 1 meetings and weekly group tutorials. I also had a contact from the university I could use.
