    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Participate in the weekly meetings and ask the supervisor what task you should prioritise. Everyday can be different, in the first few days you do literature reviews, then start developing your own experiment, then you learn how to apply for ethics, make the methodology. Meanwhile you might help other people in their research.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I've learned how to do a thematic map in NVivo. I improved my R Studio coding skills and I am able to understand better how to analyse data and the steps of designing an experiment. I become better at teamworking and organising myself. I have done a short course of behaviour change therapy. I learned how to do a questionnaire in Qualtrics.

  • I have received support at all times as I had weekly meetings with my supervisors and also I could email them every question that I had and they would answer promptly. I also had support from the placement tutor every 2 weeks.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • All the placement students were working in an open area office and it was nice and quiet. We could talk to each other from time to time.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I enjoyed it a lot as tasks were never forced on me to do and I could manage the workload easily and my supervisors were open to every suggestion and let me take every opportunity I had to grow inside and outside the placement, like training from other providers.

  • You have to want to grow in the domain because no one will force or push you to do anything. You have to have well set goals and be determined to achieve them. You have to have a can do anything attitude but be aware of your weaknesses and work on them.
